Introduction to Natural Science Illustration - UW Seattle, Educational Outreach

Natural Science Illustration is a beautiful blend of science and art – all with a specific purpose – to illustrate a particular form or function. For all the students in this introductory class, there will be some things you already know, and new techniques to explore. For students coming from a background in the sciences, I’m looking forward to teaching drawing skills, depicting three dimensional images on a two dimensional surface in a convincing way, and translating a range of values into color.  For students coming from a background in visual art, I’m looking forward to teaching the precision of scientific observation, inquiry, and measurement.  All of these skills are necessary for illustrators to create an image that is accurate, beautiful, and meets the needs of the client.

This class is the first in a series of six leading to a Certificate in Natural Science Illustration.

It meets on Monday evenings, 6:30-9pm, beginning in October 2011.  Contact UW  Educational Outreach for further details.
